Sunscreen Tips and Facts!

We all know how important sunscreen is, but thought I’d share a few tips and facts with you all!
While sunscreen is important to use year round, we tend to spend a lot more time outdoors in the sunshine during the summertime, so be prepared!

Create a morning routine for yourself AND your kids that includes a first coat of sunscreen. For my kids, I use a non-oily moisturizer with a 30 SPF on them after they brush their teeth each morning. Then before they go outside, I apply ...

National Kids to Parks Day

Just what is National Kids to Parks Day, anyway? Simply put, every family in America is invited to attend a local park, state park, or national park and play the day away! Many areas are hosting special events! You can also go to www.kidstoparks.org and pledge to go to a park with your family on May 19th. Pretty cool!

This is the perfect opportunity to "unplug" and enjoy the great outdoors. You'll be amazed at how much fun you can have, and to help, kidstoparks.org has ...

The Story of Miss Grace

A local mom spreading awareness about Melanoma/Skin cancer

May is melanoma/skin cancer awareness month. For us, we are aware of it on a daily basis.

I took Grace (our youngest of 3 kids) to see her doctor about a bump on her arm. Everyone kept telling us it was nothing more than a wart. I'm no doctor but it was really bothering me and I had never seen a wart grow like this was. It was obviously bothersome to her because she was picking at it and this caused it to bleed.

The nurse practitioner agreed ...

Homemade Moon Dough

I found this recipe for moon dough/cloud dough on Pinterest! It peaked my interest so we spent an afternoon playing in it.  It's really easy to make and both of my kids had a ball playing in the stuff.

What you need:

  • 8-16 cups of flour
  • 1-2 cups of baby oil
  • plastic bin
  • toys!

What you do:

Dump the flour in your plastic bin. I used 16 cups for my 2 little ones and it was the perfect amount for 2. You could double that or triple that ...

Make Your Own Marshmallow Shooter

This is a really simple craft that leaves your mini macaroni with a fun toy to enjoy after! It's a marshmallow/pom pom shooter!

What you need:
2 plastic cups
1 balloon
scissors
marshmallows and/or pom poms

What you do:
Stack the 2 plastic cups and cut them about a third of the way down. (I used 2 for sturdiness. If you have a surdier cup, one will probably do)

Tie your balloon and cut the (non-tied) end.

Your shooter will look like this:

Place the marshmallow or ...

Tuesday, May 22 - Teen Book Discussion -Chasing Lincoln's Killer, by James Swanson

"This story is true. All the characters are real and were alive during the great manhunt of April 1865. Their words are authentic and come from original sources: letters, manuscripts, trial transcripts, newspapers, government reports, pamphlets, books and other documents. What happened in Washington, D.C., that spring, and in the swamps and rivers, forests and fields of Maryland and Virginia during the next twelve days, is far too incredible to have been made up." Teens may pick up a copy at the answer desk. Please read the book prior to the discussion. Bring a friend and enjoy some snacks!
